Zenica Meet Up

From Zenica Meetup in the world of IT

In cooperation with our representatives, one more Zenica meetup was successfully realized, which gathered many members, the active and the new ones too. In addition to the faithful Zenica diaspora, the meeting was also attended by representatives of the University of Zenica, the ZEDA agency, the AgentLocator company, The City administration and the i-diaspora as the organizer of the event itself.

As we announced, the topic of this month's meetup was the development of the IT industry in the city of Zenica. It should certainly be pointed out that so far a large number of Zenica residents are connected and active in this industry, which significantly emphasizes Zenica in the world of IT.

Thus, at the last gathering, the esteemed professor Samir Lemeš introduced the participants to the work of the Faculty of Software Engineering within the Polytechnic Faculty in Zenica. There are more and more students and interested people, but one of the problems is the lack of professional staff, that is the blocking of employment by the authorities. As with most multidisciplinary faculties, physical space is a big problem, what means the combination of several faculties in one building, which greatly complicates the work and teaching. However, technical knowledge is at a high level and with creative solutions and persistence of those who are responsible, it is possible to achieve greater results.

During the gathering, the Zenica Development Agency ZEDA was presented, within which the Impulse Creative Development Center operates, whose main purpose is to be the driving force of entrepreneurship development, and thus the startup community in Zenica and the IT sector. The creative center also includes the ZeForge Developers Community Zenica, the first community of developers in Zenica that through its activities and projects seeks to raise awareness by increasing knowledge and skills primarily among young people and all those who see their future in the world of IT. Mirza Sikirić presented the community, talking about the realized projects and future plans. What is known is that the ZEDA building, with the support of the European Union, provides space for 45 companies and the plan is to realize in one place even ten IT companies that will hire new workers.

What everyone agreed on is that it would be necessary for the City to facilitate the "entry" of companies that do outsourcing with a reduction in fees, which would greatly facilitate the process itself. Start-ups that would be supported by various sources are also put in focus. Certainly, it is desirable to continue working on the development of "soft" skills and other non-formal education for young people in order to build and improve the community of Zenica that is active the IT sector.
