At the very beginning, as usual, we met new participants of the Meetup who have not had the opportunity to participate in our gatherings so far. All of them are originally from Zenica, love their hometown and very enthusiastically accept the possibility of providing assistance to their fellow citizens through the transfer of knowledge, experience and ideas.
Thematic Meetup
As we announced, this, the fifth in a row, Zenica meetup focused on ecology and the circular economy.
Introducing the participants of the meeting with the environmental problems that Zenica is facing, the representative of the i-diaspora in Zenica, Safet Kubat, introduced the attendees to their potential solutions. They talked about renewable energy sources, then about small hydro and hydro power plants in the area of this region, and about afforestation and restocking. Mr. Kubat used the opportunity to acquaint the participants with the data related to the amount of municipal waste at the Regional Landfill Mošćanica, which dates back to 2009, presented the details of the project "Precious plastic", and, finally, spoke about municipal waste as a resource.
"Let's clean up the city in one day"
On this occasion, the mentioned project was presented, whose holder would certainly be the i-diaspora, in coordination with all relevant entities from the city. Delighted by the idea, the emigrants from Zenica wholeheartedly accepted this proposal, and the decision was made to start implementing it in August, when Zenica emigrants, for the most part, reside in their hometown.
Also, the plan is to set up holiday homes and barbecues on the famous Zenica picnic areas, which would certainly motivate the people of Zenica to spend even more time in nature.
All of the above would be rounded off with an all-day gathering of Zenica residents and representatives of their diaspora. And, in order for this to be possible, the plan is to launch a crowdfunding campaign called "Let's clean the city in one day".
Smart city
Another commendable activity that should be realized soon, thanks to the representatives of the City, a private company from Banja Luka and the i-diaspora. Aware of the importance of preserving the environment, the company from Banja Luka, through its brand, has produced solar benches that support the active life of citizens and users. By resting on a smart bench, the citizen is able to charge the battery of his mobile device, and in this way, all together, we raise the awareness of fellow citizens about the importance of using renewable energy sources in all areas of life. Thanks to this and similar projects, our cities are becoming greener, the air cleaner, traffic more moderate, and citizens more satisfied.
So, thanks to this Meetup, the cooperation between the mentioned company and the City of Zenica has been established, and soon, the people of Zenica will see the results of this fruitful cooperation in the form of several smart solar benches.
