Safet Kubat, representative of the i-diaspora, appointed as a UNESCO peace champion!

A long-time activist, fighter for human rights, environmental worker, and soon a doctor of science in the field of political ecology, Safet Kubat was recently awarded the title "Champion of Peace", that is, he was appointed as a UNESCO ambassador. He believes that it is precisely the combination of different tools , from digital activism, through environmental activism, and activism in working with young people resulted in this appointment.

Champion of peace

UNESCO launched the "SOCIAL MEDIA 4 PEACE" project, and in addition to BiH, where it is being implemented, it is also being implemented in Kenya and Indonesia. UNESCO has recognized people who can achieve a certain social impact, primarily using digital tools, but also their own credibility, ultimately leading to positive changes in society.

With the positive use of social networks, a positive narrative, but also with positive digital activism, we fight against the destructive forces that dominate social networks, and in this way we reduce hate speech. Essentially, today everything starts on social networks, and the line between digital and real is slowly being lost. In fact, digital has become real.

Speaking further about the influence of social networks, he points out that everything happens on them. "Wars are started on social networks, but peace is also built. It is important who will be stronger in this duel," adds Kubat.

Social networks have drawn a fine line between freedom of speech and hate speech. Often, even the best projects are ruined, if a negative impact is allowed, because people cannot bear such a dose of hatred.

Key things for the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Kubat was appointed to the position of representative of the i-diaspora a year ago, and it is precisely in the diaspora, as well as in the i-diaspora, that he sees a chance for the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

I am sure that the diaspora is a key resource for Bosnia and Herzegovina. We have an obligation to restore trust and to build a bond between the homeland and the diaspora, and I see that strength mostly in the i-diaspora. I act as a change generator, and we approach problems systematically. I believe that this is the solution - to work every day, not just from election to election.

Apart from the diaspora, he also sees a chance for the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina in ecology as an ideology, because he believes that natural resources are the only thing left to us. He also made a great contribution to the ecological community through the formation of the eco-movement "Rivers of Bosnia and Herzegovina - Be a Change", which has more than 58,000 members, and soon plans to make the newly acquired knowledge available to the community, which, through daily training as part of his doctoral studies, is increasing and larger.
