Who Teaches Whom? Design Bridge Connects Travnik and Lucerne Through Shared Learning

The closing event of the Swiss-Balkan Design Bridge project will take place in Lucerne on 28 October 2026, bringing together experiences from two summer schools in Travnik, a jointly developed curriculum, and findings from the project’s impact assessment.

What happens when international educational cooperation starts with a question: what can we learn from one another?

Design Bridge was built around this idea. Across two summer schools in Travnik, students and lecturers from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) worked alongside youth workers and young people from Bosnia and Herzegovina to develop a programme together. Academic and non-formal educational approaches contributed on equal terms.

The result is a curriculum that belongs to both sides, accompanied by an evaluation that goes beyond participant satisfaction to explore learning and the programme’s impact.

The project also brought together HSLU’s Social Work and Business departments to jointly shape the curriculum. This collaboration reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the challenges that students and practitioners will encounter in their work.

At the closing event, “Who Teaches Whom? Design Bridge: two summers between Travnik and Lucerne,” the project team will present the results of both editions: the co-created curriculum, the impact assessment findings, and an honest account of what changed between the first summer and the second.

Participants from both countries will share their experiences. Nermin Zejnilović from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Lea Meister, who both taught in this year’s summer schools, will also join the event.

The event welcomes students and lecturers in Social Work and Business, youth work practitioners, and anyone interested in shaping international educational cooperation. An apéro will follow, offering an opportunity to continue the conversation in an informal setting.
