The verses of numerous sevdalinkas brightened up another evening for the participants of the virtual coffee

Thanks to its importance, but also to its unsurpassedness, our friend, Esad Bajtal, dedicated another virtual coffee to sevdalinka.

What is sevdalinka singing about?

The specific architecture and structure of houses and towns in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the cult of water and greenery are a typical ambience and the basis for the creation of sevdalinka, Bajtal points out. Inspired by the above, the authors created some of the most famous sevdalinkas. Sevdalinka was created by everyday life and a specific living environment, ie the way of building and living typical of earlier times. So, a typical Bosnian house, courtyard, flowers and nature.

Sevdalinka is actually a conversation / singing in the form of an intimate monologue, and very often in sevdalinka there is a fusion of man and nature. It is interesting that sometimes, in sevdalinkas, nature itself addresses man, which is evident in the poem "Gorom jezde kićeni svatovi".

According to a respected sociologist, sevdalinka often goes beyond logic, and in fact only the heart is listened to. But she, at the same time, neither wants nor demands the prohibition of prohibition, for without prohibition there is no pleasure, which is evident in biblical logic in the story of the forbidden fruit. The ban actually only strengthens the desire, and is there only to be violated. And violating the prohibition is the essence of enjoyment.

This monotheistic love matrix finds its way to the strongest, and often makes you cry with its strength and magnitude of love pain.

Professor Bajtal spoke about everything written, but also more widely, on June 15th. The video from the lecture will soon be available on our YouTube channel.
