Extended circle of participants at the last Diaspora Online Check In

This year's first Diaspora Online Check In, a regular one-month meeting attended by representatives of individual emigrant organizations, was held on January 14th, via the Zoom application.

So far, according to the data available to the representatives of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH, these meetings were attended by over twenty participants, also representatives of nine organizations from seven different countries. "It is an honor to cooperate with representatives of organizations registered in Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany and Croatia," said, among other things, Isma Stanić, a representative of the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees.

About the activities so far

As usual, the agenda of Diaspora Online Check In, among other things, requires acquainting participants with the activities of all participating organizations, but also the Ministry, which is the only current representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina at these meetings.

In this regard, the Sector for Emigration of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina stated that in the previous period two grants were approved to local self-government units for the implementation of the draft Policy on Cooperation with Emigrants and NGOs for activities towards emigrants. The implementation of the above is expected soon.

Also, representatives of the Ministry held training for civil servants, which was attended by about 40 participants, all with the aim of strengthening capacity in institutions.

This Sector has made great efforts in planning this year's activities, as part of which it was decided that the conference called "BiH in the heart" will be extended for two months, and will be held in August instead of June. The goal is to meet the participants live, but this activity, like all others, will be conditioned by the situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

At the same time, Mr. Dean Koldžo, President of the Swedish organization APU Network, pointed out that this organization organized numerous events, as part of which a ski school stood out, which, despite the pandemic, was attended by about 300 students. They want to maintain a similar activity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the domestic mountains. Also, according to Koldžo, numerous activities on the topic of the native language were organized.

Numerous activities are also recorded by Bosnian-Herzegovinian organizations based in Denmark, and one of the most important is certainly the continuation of webinars directed by BH Roots, says Mr. Rufad Šećerbegović, on behalf of SBHUD.

The German PANGEA network is not lagging behind in its daily activities either, and as one of the most important ones, they certainly pointed out the reaction to the congratulations on January 9th, the unconstitutional Day of the Republika Srpska, which arrived from certain German politicians. In this regard, according to Mr. Ahmed Spahić, they are expected to hold talks with with some representatives of the European Parliament.

At the end of this agenda, the participants were addressed by Mr. Nikola Burić, Executive Director of the i-platform, who introduced the participants to the results so far such as regular Kladanj Meet Up, the first organized Živinice Meet Up, signing a Memorandum of Cooperation with this two municipalities, then signing a Memorandum of Cooperation with NK "Čelik" Zenica, holding bilateral meetings with the PANGEA network, launching the project "5 million friends of BiH" in cooperation with La Terra Nostra, the success of the crowdfunding campaign for our friends from Gea.heal concept, etc...

Towards the end of this gathering, the actors discussed the planned thematic meeting on the native language, which is scheduled for February 3rd, where, with a lecture by Dr. Dina Mehmedbegović - Smith will talk about the importance of learning the native language.

The next Diaspora Online Check In is scheduled for February 4th.
