The Summer School is a joint initiative between Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the collaboration with the Swiss charity foundation La Terra Nostra and i-dijaspora.
Our summer school will take place in Stolac, Bosnia and Herzegovina, a historical town with a rich cultural heritage and beautiful nature close to the Mediterranean Sea.
The summer school will start with a registration/welcoming session on July 21st, 2019 (afternoon) and will close with the official closing ceremony on July 26th, 2019. Departure from Stolac is planned for the morning of July 27th, 2019.

Creative Writing – Aida Suljakovic
Creative writing is actively used by the authors of novels, short stories, essays and dramas.
Every individual can master the techniques of creative writing and during this process discover a new part of him-/herself: a hidden self-identity? Our workshop uses creative methods, which encourage the development of special competences to describe personal feelings. They awaken our perception of internal and external happenings, which, in the end, make us who we are.
Meditation - Sanela Kinka Kamm
Starting the day with centering exercises such as meditation, body scan and other techniques can help improve personal well-being as well as increase awareness for the little things in life as well as for the personal state of mind.
Modern Entrepreneurship – Dr. Branko Woischwill
Let’s shape the world in a startup! In this workshop success factors of modern entrepreneurs are presented and discussed. For instance, we analyze how to build up trust in the team and towards investors. Furthermore, the workshop will show how to increase your entrepreneurial influence. And you will learn which media skills and which soft skills are important.
Design Thinking – Manuel Hartmann
Design Thinking is a human centered, systematic approach to radical innovation at the intersection of business, technology and people.

Public Speaking & Leadership – Alma Palo Aličehić
The goal of this workshop is to help the participants to overcome their fears of speaking in front of other people. At the same time, they will be challenged to deliver a good quality speech in a very short period of time.
Conflict Management – Sanela Kinka Kamm
This workshop is an introduction to the nature of conflicts and how they start. You will learn which conflict levels can be self-managed and when help is required. We will also address what can be done on a personal level to prevent escalation of personal conflicts by using non-violent communication.
Literature and poetry night – Aida Suljaković, Adnan Žetica, Naida Mujkić, Mirza Okić, Asmir Kujović
With laws in the human society, literature introduces us to life and helps us to enlighten the human nature and soul. Using literature we are able to discover ourselves. Therein lies literature's biggest importance for the human species.
Literature affects human emotions, thoughts, intellect and character and forms a person`s world views.
The literature workshop will offer literary and historical information about Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bosnian-Herzegovinian language.
In the poetry part we will introduce different poetic styles and the postmodern Bosnian-Herzegovinian poetry, which developed in parallel with the Western literature.
We included in our program many interesting facts, which will provide much amusement to all participants.
Improvisational Theater – Walter "Willy" Willimann, Viola Lutz
This workshop is interactive and fun! We will will introduce the principles of improvisational theater, such as active listening, failing with joy and saying “yes and” to everything. You will have the opportunity to practice how to deal with a life full of mistakes in a positive and accepting way.
Active citizenship – Inga Kotlo, Mahir Sijamija
Throughout this module students/young activists will be encouraged to reflect on the role of active and responsible citizenship in protecting and promoting democratic values in local, national and global community. Moreover they will explore, discuss and practice different tools and mechanism for influencing public policy and other decision making processes in their respected communities.
Psycho-Geographical Expedition – Sunčana Laketa
Places we live in have a significant influence in our everyday life. Every place has a story and a spirit. Memories, emotions, social norms and intimate experiences form a significant part of the landscapes that we traverse. Spaces connect and divide, they link us with past voices, places and people.
The psycho-geographical expedition is a joint exploration that uncovers the spirit of a place. It is a sensual journey through the past, present and future of places. The expedition will take place during the field trip at three different sites near Stolac. Through play, improvisation and creativity, participants will explore the experience of the site and develop a sense of adventure in daily life.
Psychodrama – Zvjezdana Savić, Tihana Majstorović
The workshop uses action and psychodrama techniques to work primarily on group and individual topics related to the content of the training, especially to the topic of prejudices.
Who can participate?
- Young people between 18 and 30 years of age can apply.
- Applications should be completed no later than 31st May 2019
- Application form, motivational letter, CV, a copy of ID card or passport must be sent to summer.school [at] idijaspora.ch
- For the motivational letter, please answer the following questions: "What is your motivation to participate in this Summer School? What are your expectations?"
- If applying for a scholarship, please add a short explanation "Why should I receive a scholarship?" to the motivational letter.
- The total number of participants will be 20.
- Participants will have to cover their travel costs to Stolac.
- Health insurance and visa are the participants own responsibility.
- The application fee includes all the costs of student participation, including meals, bed, and all programme activities.
- In the case of clear and demonstrated need, applicants can apply for a scholarship.

Full Fee: EUR 220 (worldwide) for “early bird” applications received until 5th May. EUR 270 for later applications.
Reduced Fee: EUR 50* for “early bird” applications received until 5th May. EUR 65 for later applications.

We offer 5 scholarships for selected applicants from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Serbia.
*To qualify for Reduced Fee, Summer School applicants need to be citizens of and currently reside in one of the following countries: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo, and Serbia.
