The selected candidate will help and participate in various activities that are directly related to education, or work with children in nature, and thus promote the so-called education in nature. To be part of a team, a candidate needs to be autonomous when it comes to traveling, cooking, attending meetings etc.
Possible program of the internship (proposals, clarifications will occur during month of June)
11.7 – 15.7.2022 - Centre Champ-Pittet
- Accompaniment of guided tours for families and children in the nature reserve Champ-Pittet;
- Various tasks in the exhibition of the center on the topic of small mammals such as Garden dormouse, Hazel dormouse, ermine etc;
- Assistance at the reception of visitors;
- Help in the center’s café;
- Accommodation in Neuchâtel at guest family or at Centre Champ-Pittet.
Alternative for a period 11.7 – 15.7.2022 - Yoga - Nature for children – "La Nature pour tous"
- Accompaniment of children’s activities in nature;
- Yoga-exercices for children in nature;
- Nature observations;
- Accommodation in Neuchâtel at guest family.
18.7 - 23.7.2022 - Hiking - camp “Altitude” for children
- Accompaniment of children from 9 to 13 years during the daily hikes (3-5 hours of hiking, with 500 – 1000m altitude differences);
- Help in the kitchen and divers tasks in the mountain-house in the organization team;
- Accommodation in the Cabane Barraud, situated on 1953 m in the Alps of canton Vaud.
25.7 – 29.7.2022 - Botanical Garden and Museum of natural history Neuchâtel
- Accompaniment of guided tours for families and children in the Botanical garden;
- Various tasks in the exhibition of the visitor center;
- Help in the center’s café;
- Accommodation in Neuchâtel at guest family.
1.8-5.8.2022 - Summer camp on the topic of wetlands for children
- Accompaniment of children from 9 to 13 years during the daily activities on excursions, hikes, games, artistic activities;
- Help in the kitchen and divers tasks in the organization team;
- Accommodation in the Colonie Les Ecarres, situated in the beautiful Jura countryside.
What the internship offers
- Work in different teams and highly motivated volunteers and professionals in the field of nature education;
- Learn methods about nature education by observing activities with children and young people;
- Get insights in different organizations and institutions and their functioning;
- Get inspirations for the Youth&Nature-Group created in Travnik;
- Discover beautiful places in Switzerland;
- Learn skills in communication, animation, reception of visitors, cooking;
- Personal growth through new experiences abroad and autonomous organization.
What the candidate should offer
- Being an active participant of the Rivjeka project 2022;
- High autonomy, being able to organize daily tasks and orientation in an unknown environment (take public transports, shopping, cooking, stick to agreed meeting points);
- Experience in hiking and being outdoors;
- Good English skills, basics in German or French is a plus;
- High motivation for the internships and for getting in contact with various people;
- High motivation for an engagement in a Youth&Nature-Group in Travnik (CEM) from autumn 2022;
- Commit to write a report detailing the activities and the learnings of the internship.
Practical aspects
- 1 or 2 zoom-calls will be organized in month of June in order to prepare the internship;
- Accommodation in different guest places and simple group lodges is organized;
- Dinner or picknick is taken at the place of internship;
- Breakfast and dinner is partially organized by guest families, partially has to be organized autonomously;
- Travel in public transports (train and bus) is done autonomously;
- Fees for accommodation, food, transports and a small daily pocket money is offered;
- The candidate has to conclude a travel insurance for the whole stay in Switzerland;
- Candidate will be chosen at latest until mid of June by a committee of Pro Natura Neuchâtel;
- During the internship, Maiann Suhner and other Rivjeka participants will help in any case of questions or insecurities.
