General Elections in BiH 2018 - Info Meetings in Zurich, Lausanne and Ticino

The association i-dijaspora has organised three informative meetings regarding the following general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, that will be held on 7th October 2018. The main aim of the meetings was to present the requirements and explain to the participants how to register to vote and how to vote from abroad.

The informative meetings took place in the three biggest language regions of Switzerland:

-       in the German-speaking region: Zurich, Canton ZH, 9th June;
-       in the Italian-speaking region: Mezzovico, Canton TI, 23th June;
-       in the French-speaking region: Lausanne, Canton VD, 7th July.

The meetings in Zurich and Lausanne were held in cooperation with the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Switzerland, while the informative meeting in Ticino was co-organised by i-dijaspora and the association Bosona.

The main aim of the info meetings was to inform citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who are living in Switzerland, about the importance of the upcoming elections and the postal voting (registration is open until: 24.07.2018). It is also possible to vote directly at the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Bern, Thorackerstr. 3, 3074 Muri bei Bern, on the election day (07.10.2018), if at the minimum 50 BiH citizens apply by e-mail (marija.antunovic [at] idijaspora.ch) for this option until 15.07.2018.

“There is great interest among our people to register to vote from abroad and to cast a vote for parties and candidates, that in their opinion can contribute most to the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina. But I noticed that for many diaspora members the registration form poses an obstacle. To be honest, the form is not really overseeable and it is not always clear how to fill in the form”, said Nenad Stojanović, president and steering bord member of i-dijaspora, who attended the informative meeting in Ticino. Sulejman Dedić, president of the association Bosona, organised forms and a scanner so that the participants had the possibility to fill in the registration form and scan their documents right at the info meeting. The info meeting in Ticino was followed by a concert.
