The action "Let's clean the city in one day" exceeded all our expectations!

The clean-up action organized by the group "Rivers of Bosnia and Herzegovina - Be a Change", led by Safet Kubat in cooperation with the i-diaspora, but also a dozen NGOs located in Zenica, exceeded all expectations of the organizers and participants.

A large number of young and old citizens of Zenica participated in the action of cleaning the city and suburbs, which ultimately resulted in more than 3,500 collected bags of garbage. The clean-up was carried out at nine locations that covered city streets and settlements, river banks, streams and neighborhoods, parks, parts of the main and regional road, and numerous villages. All collected waste was subsequently disposed of at the regional landfill Mošćanica, which was the merit of the City of Zenica.

A few days before the action, a small group of Zenica residents put up boards with environmental messages that further motivated those gathered for the upcoming action.

Initially, the engagement of about 600 volunteers and activists was planned, but at the very beginning of the action, that number was exceeded, and in the end, about 800 volunteers responded to the action, tirelessly cleaning their city.

The one-month planning of this action resulted in reports in numerous domestic and world media. Throughout the day, this eco-conscious team was monitored by cameras, and word of it spread even in the French media.

"We have used this historic act to point out to irresponsible individuals the mistakes they make every day. We expect their actions to embarrass them at least a little. We are aware that such an action cannot completely solve the waste problem, but it is certainly a commendable initiative of the organizers. In the long run, such a problem is best solved by penal policy, ie the introduction of strict fines"said, among other things, Samir Lemeš, President of the Board of the Eco Forum Zenica.

After the activities related to cleaning the city and Zenica picnic areas were completed, the volunteers enjoyed recreational activities such as a men's soccer tournament, women's volleyball, a run in which older participants participated, as well as a special competition for the youngest. Let us add that the youngest participant in the action was awarded a symbolic award from the organizers.

i-diaspora, for the success of this action, launched a crowdfunding campaign through the wemakeit platform. The Zenica Diaspora, as well as the i-diaspora, wholeheartedly supported this environmentally conscious team, and provided funds with which the activists were provided with transportation, food, drinks, T-shirts with interesting and educational content, as well as other necessary props.

At the very end of the day, participants and donors were presented with numerous awards in the form of letters of thanks and plaques.
