About the play ''JEDVANOSIMSOBOAKALOMISTOBO''

As regards those who are staying, we congratulate them on their existence

Writing a text about the situation in a country in which everyone is already talking about it, writing columns, discussing, arguing, keeping silent, screaming, protesting, giving up protesting, etc., is like putting one’s brain in the drum of a washing machine. There is a myriad of topics that one might write about, and there are even more absurd situations. The most interesting part of the whole process preceding the writing is the research itself, since this has led to some scenes that my imagination could never even have come up with. Examples include things such as the report of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees ''about the brain drain and the enormous financial resource that the diaspora constitutes for the development of the home country'', the story of a woman discharged from the hospital after giving birth, whose sex was stated as male, a list of official professions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with also includes the item department director, not classified elsewhere, etc.

Luckily, I did not write the text alone, but rather together with the director Aleš Kurt, who provided ideas and advice to navigate through a crazy array of topics that we could focus on. We started with the attempt of defining who we actually are, and then went over to the post-war period and the endless transition, in order to come to the present, in which we spend a lot of time at counters, unemployed and tired, waiting for planes to crash down from heaven in order to escape from our home country. Because the truth is that we are frequently barely able to deal with ourselves, let alone speak about the situation that we are in. But not everyone can leave. As regards those who are staying, we congratulate them on their existence.

The playwrights are Nejra Babić and Aleš Kurt, the latter being also the director of the play.

The play is part of the project A suitcase of memories of a puppet theatre studio Sarajevo, which is supported by the Swiss Government.
